Its mid-summer, in all its fiery heat... barbecues and hummingbirds and blue cloudless skies here in Santa Fe. A quick update about my anatomy course for anyone who is local and a book that has just come out that devotes a chapter to thoughts about one of my paintings.

'Beauty's Vineyard'
Liturgical Press 2016

Kim Vrudny, professor of systematic theology at the University of St. Thomas, has written a deeply felt book in which she locates beauty as the 'vineyard' of a just and loving community and integrates the idea of beauty and the role of art as crucial to the work of theology.

She uses 8 paintings by 8 different artists as focal points for her exploration of contemporary thinking in what she terms is "this age of anguish and anticipation", sharing profound insights from her own rich experience and from her extensive knowledge of the scriptures.

Anatomy For Artists 2016
AUGUST 22nd - NOVEMBER 14th 2016
A course of 12 lectures/drawing sessions
on Monday mornings 10am-2pm

Since the fifteenth century, artists have relied on a thorough understanding of anatomy to produce convincing depictions of humans and animals in their work.

Over a period of 12 class sessions, we cover all the bones of the human skeleton and the visible surface muscles of the body, including the face. We discuss the methods humans use to move our bones through space and why our bodies evolved the muscles and bones we have. We also cover a little history of anatomy, as well as the importance of artists to early modern anatomical study.

Each four-hour class consists of a lecture followed by a 90-minute drawing session focusing on the part(s) that we have been discussing. Participants are also given the opportunity to compare real human bones to a live model in order to better understand the body surfaces that they see.

Class information and enrollment details are available online on my website.
